Girls Camp 2007

Notice the ponchos?!! That was girls camp. The only rain Vegas has seen in months and it decided to come down on us! The first night our EZ ups flooded and one came down with the sound of a tidal wave. Luckily all the girls were at a musical event. Me and another leader spent the night tarping our EZ ups and tents, and gathering rocks to create a dry bed for our dutch ovens to sit on, since a river was running through our camp!
Now don't covet our outfits too much! We were themed in the 70's, so our attire consisted of cute baseball shirts, green and white, and hideous orange bell bottoms with a green flowered flare. Gorgeous!! Our theme this year was "Camp Confidence: I can do hard things!" Very appropriate for this year. The girls really endured hard things. Constant rain for 2 1/2 days, leaking and flooding tents, which we replaced while up there (we even had to dig trenches and build dams to prevent flooding in the tents: I was awarded the Curly Trench Digger award), standing in a down pour for 1 hour without shelter to experience an awesome event called "Life line", no dry clothes, wet and cold feet, and waking up at 4 am to thunder and lightening like I have never experienced before. It was literally directly above us and louder than any thunder I've ever heard. Cots and sleeping bags were drenched and had to be sent home to dry. We didn't have any dry chairs to sit on for 2 days either.
The girls also went through a coping course where they had to do hard things, relying on each other to complete their tasks. For this one they had to walk a distance on these poles without falling off. It was hard.
No matter what you experience at camp, good or bad, the what you take away is always worth it. Testimonies were built and strengthened, friendships were made, and the girls were always smiling. We did hard things.....and we did them well!!!!!
